Lyon

Lyon, the former capital of Gaul, was founded in 43 BC. The city has preserved many archaeological remains from this era, including the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre of Fourvière. Lyon includes the historic districts of "Vieux Lyon" (Old Lyon), a UNESCO World Heritage site, Fourvière (the praying hill), Croix-Rousse (the working hill), and the Presqu'île (Peninsula), the meeting point between the Rhône and Saône rivers! Lyon represents the largest and most homogeneous Renaissance site in France.

Lyon is famous for its "canuts" (silk workers) and its "traboules" (narrow passages that weave from courtyard to courtyard, allowing one to pass quickly from one street to another).

Lyon's reputation for fine cuisine is well established. Today, the Lyon region boasts the largest number of Michelin-starred chefs. From the 'Bourgogne" wines, at the North, to the "Côtes du Rhône", at the South, some of France's best vineyards begin at the gates of Lyon.

Lyon is easily accessible by train (TGV from Paris and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport), by plane (Lyon-Saint Exupéry International Airport) or by car, as it is located at the heart of a major road network.
